Education & Training: Master of Arts in Theology from St. John's University. Masters in Social Work from the University of Maryland. Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 1989. Background and Experience: Barry's previous professional work experience includes six years as a Youth Minister prior to beginning work in the mental health field at Woodley House. He has also worked in an Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital, 28-Day Chemical Dependency Program Inpatient Unit, the Montgomery County Crisis Center, Abused Persons Program and Rape Crisis Center, and several Employee Assistance Programs.
Special Interests & Services: Barry works predominantly with adults, couples and adolescents over a wide range of counseling and mental health issues and several specialties developed over 23 years in the mental health field plus 6 years in full-time ministry. He has been trained in Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, Traumatic Incident Reduction, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, EMDR, EEG Biofeedback, Brain Mapping, and has a Chemical Dependency Counseling Certification. Although the Rockville Clinic operates as a fee for service clinic, because of State Social Work licensure, most services are reimbursable through many insurance plans.
Additional Info: Barry was raised in a Jewish home. He placed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized in 1973. Barry was married in 1977. He received his Master's Degree in Theology, specializing in Religious Education. Barry worked for six years as a full-time youth minister followed by a 25 year career as a psychotherapist. He began working for Meier Clinics (formerly Minirth-Meier) in 1990. In 2006, Barry expanded his ability to help adults and adolescents as well as couple and families by pursuing extensive training in Neurofeedback, a powerful tool for enhancing self-regulation as well as complementing treatment of ADD/ADHD, PTSD, anxiety, depression, optimal performance, and stress management.
