We are excited that we are now in our 48th year of providing Christian mental health services to all age groups at Meier Clinics. Our Mission Statement continues to be that we are:
“committed to providing comprehensive mental health services that address the needs of the whole person—physically, emotionally and spiritually—through promoting wellness and reducing barriers to accessible care.”
We continue to offer charitable care services of approximately $700,000 or more every year to those who have no insurance, and they are not able to afford the mental health services they desire. It has become challenging in an era of managed care insurance which governs and limits the fees which they will allow us to bill, even though a great many insurance companies have not allowed basic cost of living increases to us in several years since COVID.
We are a 501c3 non-profit and tax-exempt organization, and we are aware that we will need to ask those who believe in the essential services that the Meier Clinics Christian counselors and doctors provide, so they may help us through giving a donation to allow us to continue meeting the clients’ needs, whether they have insurance or not, and when the clients have very limited financial resources.
We are pleased to have this testimonial from Sergio Martinez, LCSW, the Director of our Chicago Clinic serving the Lawndale area, Illinois—one of the most impoverished areas of Chicago:
Working at the Chicago North/Lawndale area has been challenging, but very rewarding. Most of our clients come with different mental health needs, but a great number of them have experienced some form of trauma, abuse, and addictions that has impacted not only their lives but their loved ones as well. However, here is where I can see that God is at work through Meier Clinics: “where sin abounds, grace abounds much more.” Romans 5:20
A female client who came for therapy services experienced abandonment, and neglect during her formative years, and that led her to live a life with anger, resentment, and addictions. However, during treatment, I was able to see a transformation from anger to peace and from using drugs to escape reality to feeling empowered to face each day, and from being a wounded woman, to being healed. At the end of the therapy services, she was a completely different person with a secured job and the desire to live to her fullest. Her words still come to me as she shared “I am so grateful that you work in our community.” This is only possible through the Meier Clinics’ Leadership’s vision of reaching out to those in need with a message of healing, hope, and restoration through therapy services. What we do In counseling at Chicago/Lawndale impacts not only individuals, but strengthens families, and helps build stronger communities.—Sergio Martinez, LCSW, Director of Meier Clinic in Chicago/Lawndale
