Education and Training: Ph.D. in Psychology (1992) from United States International University, San Diego (now Alliant International University). Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University, Fullerton, and a seminary degree from Talbot Theological Seminary, Biola University. Dr. Pontius completed post-graduate training at the Gestalt Therapy Institute of Los Angeles and has trained in neuropsychological assessment with the Reitan Neuropsychological Laboratory and at United States International University. Additionally, he completed the basic and advanced certificates in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) from Florida Institute of Technology. He has been licensed as a psychologist in California since 1995 (#PSY14186) and is listed as a health service provider by the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.
Background and Experience: Dr. Pontius has been in practice in Orange County since 1987 and with Meier Clinics since 1998. He currently serves as Clinic Director at the Laguna Hills clinic. Dr. Pontius has been on the adjunct faculty of the Department of Graduate Psychology at Azusa Pacific University and in the Department of Psychology at Concordia University. Prior to beginning his education in psychology, Dr. Pontius served on the pastoral staff of three churches.
Special Interests and Services: Working with a variety of clientele, Dr. Pontius has a special interest in the diagnostic assessment and treatment of individuals and families affected by autistic spectrum disorders. He offers individual, couple, and family psychotherapy; behavioral consultation to parents and schools; psychological, educational, and neuropsychological assessment of children and adults; and parenting education for families affected by special needs.
Additional Information: As the parent of a young adult affected by autism, Dr. Pontius has an interest in working with others who experience the same and similar life challenges.
