A MESSAGE FROM PAUL MEIER, M.D.

LIFE IS DIFFICULT and will certainly have some times of pain, but I know from over thirty years of practice that at least HALF OF THE PAIN WE GO THROUGH IS UNNECESSARY. And you know what? We can learn and grow into better people from the half that is unavoidable.

In 1976, I co-founded a clinic to address mental health and relational issues of those who were looking for counseling care that did not conflict with their Christian beliefs--a safe haven where people could receive counsel and medical care from highly trained professionals who would use the skills and knowledge they had learned from years of schooling but that was based on fundamental Christian beliefs.  Clients coming to us didn't have to worry that we would take a secular approach to their problems but could have confidence that God's Word would have final authority.  They could speak with caring professionals who would help them use spiritual tools such as the Bible and prayer, and who would incorporate God's love, grace, and forgiveness, to find true answers to their problems.

Some people prefer to hear truth, others to see it, and others to read it. My goal is to shoot it straight with each of you and to convey the truth to you in the most loving way possible. My specialty is "insight oriented" therapy.  Forget the superficial, we go for the truth. We resolve deeper root problems. We see many who have been horribly abused all their lives and relieve their pain by taking them into it first.  You may have moments of sadness and grief during the healing process, but it was Jesus who said that those who mourn are blessed, because they will be comforted. I am all about positive thinking and positive feelings, but not denial of painful realities.  I hope to enable you to find hidden treasures in secret places.

I currently see clients in our Richardson, Texas, clinic if you are interested in meeting with me for an evaluation and counseling care.  I also am available for speaking engagements.  Just give my office a call at 972-437-4698 or toll free at 888-550-8922.  One of my caring staff will be happy to speak with you to arrange an appointment with me or with one of our other committed staff members.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO MAKE YOUR JOURNEY THROUGH LIFE ALONE!  You can have HOPE and PEACE, and ENJOY LIFE AGAIN!

In Christ's Love, Paul Meier, M.D.

DR. PAUL MEIER'S BIOGRAPHY

Education:  Dr. Paul Meier received his Masters of Science in Cardiovascular Physiology from Michigan State University and a Medical Degree (M.D.) from the University of Arkansas College of Medicine. Dr. Meier completed his psychiatric residency at Duke University. He attended graduate courses at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Illinois in 1975-76 while on full-time faculty. He also holds a Master of Arts degree from Dallas Theological Seminary, where he also served as a full-time faculty member in pastoral counseling for 12 years.

Specialty Training and Experience:  Paul Meier is an MD/Psychiatrist/Ordained Minister who is the founder of the national chain of non-profit Christian psychiatry clinics, the Meier Clinics. He has authored or co-authored over 80 books, mostly Christian self-help books like Love is a Choice and Happiness is a Choice, and also a series of Bible Prophecy novels, including The Third Millennium. He has been on many secular and Christian TV and radio shows, including Oprah Winfrey, Tom Snyder, Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, Joni Eareckson Tada, Joyce Meyer and many others. He has traveled to countries all over the world to train both professional and lay counselors, as well as missionaries and pastors, in the field of Christian Counseling. He taught full-time for twelve years at Dallas Theological Seminary, where he spent lots of extra time discipling promising young students like Tony Evans, John Trent, John Townsend, Henry Cloud and many others.

He has lectured at seminaries around the world including Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth, the Baptist Seminary in Cuba, and the Greek Bible Institute and Seminary in Athens. In 1985, he was the team physician for a mountain climbing expedition of Mt. Ararat with American astronaut Jim Irwin to find Noah’s Ark. Dr. Meier’s team was chased away by terrorists.

The Meier Clinics have launched many ministries throughout the years.  Countless people have trusted Christ through various Meier Clinics counseling sessions and ministries that have branched off from Meier Clinics. Over 100 Christian psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists, coast-to-coast, see thousands of clients each week, and they provide hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in charitable care.

Dr. Meier's daily prayer partner is Dr. Jean-Luc Bertrand, of Paris. Dr. Meier's previous daily prayer partner, Dr. David Larson, died of a heart attack in March of 2002.  A permanent Chair (scholarship) was named after Dr. Larson in the Library of Congress, because over half of the medical schools in the United States now have courses on spirituality that Dr. Larson designed. The only other permanent Chair in the Library of Congress belongs to Henry Kissinger. The American Association of Christian Counselors honored Dr. Meier in 2003 as a father of the Christian Psychology movement, and Christianity Today Magazine has called Dr. Meier a "Modern Day Reformer" for moving Christianity more toward an openness to admitting faults, getting counseling, being less legalistic, and even a willingness to take psychiatric medications if necessary.

Speaker:  Dr. Meier has been a guest speaker at Awakening, an annual weekend retreat designed as an opportunity for business and political leaders to exchange ideas, examine trends and learn from leading authorities and policy makers in a variety of fields.  Dr. Meier was honored and acknowledged in 2007 by President George Bush, members of the U.S. Congress and the NRCC as a Physician of the Year Honoree.

You Might Be a Narcissist If. . .

Have you read. . .

Paul Meier is pleased to introduce his first e-book, You Might Be a Narcissist If..."

"I watched a very funny TV show years ago by the authors of You Might Be a Redneck If...  I thought to myself, 'Wow, I could do a pretty funny one on You Might Be a Narcissist If...'  As I wrote it, I put in funny examples but also was reminded of all the pain my clients (and I) have suffered by the abuse of narcissists we have trusted in our pasts.  I was also reminded that we all have a few narcissistic tendencies unless we are perfect - and if you think you are perfect, you are a PERFECT NARCISSIST!  The two therapists, with whom I wrote this book, and I think it will be extremely helpful to all who read it.  It will give you a greater depth of understanding of human nature and provide a few laughs as you learn."

Find out if the stress in your relationships with family, friends, or at work is unknowlingly caused from others or yourself.  Clearly understand what narcissism is, how to identify it, and what to do about it.

Eighty percent of all pregnant women struggle with depression during or after their child's birth.  But there is good news about postpartum mood disorders - they are almost 100% treatable.  In this definitive guide to postpartum depression, written from a Christian perspective, Paul Meier, M.D., and Lynn Johnson, R.N., explains why this depression occurs, who is at risk, how to treat it, and where to find God in it all.  The Postpartum Survival Guide offers hope-filled solutions that will help new mothers enjoy this special time in their lives.  Plus, it also contains helpful resources for fathers, family members, friends, pastors, and professionals.  This book is from Tyndale House Publishers and is available June 2009.

Available at bookstores and online as a hard cover book and audiobook through Thomas Nelson.

At one time or another everyone finds themselves questioning, "Does God still love me? Is there a purpose for all this pain?" Drs. Meier and Henderson teach readers how to face painful struggles head-on in a way that allows them to grow and mature emotionally and spiritually.

In this timely book, they explore the seven most common life challenges: Injustice, Rejection, Loneliness, Loss, Discipline, Failure, and Death.  In addition, they offer the three reasons we often miss the gifts these challenges can be. This unique approach to an age-old problem will encourage and challenge readers to grow through their struggles instead of wasting energy trying to avoid them altogether.
