Christy Demetriades, Ph.D.

Education and Training:  B.S. in Exercise Sports Science from Vanguard University, 1999.  M.S. in Clinical Psychology from Vanguard University, 2005.  Ph.D. in Psychology from The California Graduate Institute of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, 2010.  Dr. Demetriades practices as a Registered Psychological Assistant (#PSB35773) under the supervision of Dr. Kyle Pontius (license #PSY14186).

 

Background and Experience:  Christy has worked in a variety of settings conducting therapy for children, adolescents and adults.  She has worked with children as young as three years of age conducting play therapy, art therapy and parent education.  She has mentored teachers to reduce the stigma of mental illness and assisted in creating an environment conducive to learning for the child.  She worked in a psychiatric hospital where she helped acute, persistent and chronically ill psychiatric patients who were emotionally unstable and violent find healthier ways of managing their mental illness and encouraged medication compliance.  Her vast experience also includes working as a Primary Therapist in a residential inpatient rehabilitation center where she treated dual diagnosis/chemically dependent patients and eating disordered patients and families. There, she conducted individual, couples, group, family, and multifamily group sessions.  Additionally, Christy taught the following didactic courses: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; Self-Esteem; Vocational Group; and facilitated in Equine Therapy; Rock-climbing; Psychodrama and Recreation.

 

Special Interests and Services:  Christy describes her therapy style as insight-oriented, psychoanalytic and relational.  She is sought after for her work with addictions, eating disorders, relational issues, anxiety, depression, perfectionism, trauma, women’s issues, and personal and spiritual growth.

 

Additional Information:  Christy is a part of Care Ministries at Mariners Church in Irvine.  She volunteers her time every week in the Anxiety and Depression Support group and helps facilitate group sessions.  She has also been a guest speaker at Mariners Church and has spoken on how our thoughts affect our mood.  She has provided several inpatient training workshops for therapists and addiction counselors in several local addiction treatment centers. Christy’s gentle, compassionate approach helps people immediately feel at ease.  Her unique God-given ability to have a balance of insight, connection and empathy gives her clients the safety and courage to do the work they need to do to heal.  Christy is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA); Christian Association of Psychological Studies (CAPS); California Psychological Association (CPA); California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT); and Orange County Psychological Association (OCPA).

 

Todd W. Fisher, Psy.D.

Education and Training:  M.A. in Clinical Psychology with emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific University.  Psy.D. in Psychology from The California Graduate Institute of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.  For his dissertation, Dr. Fisher developed a distinct treatment model for entrepreneurs with ADD.   Dr. Fisher practices as a Registered Psychological Assistant (#PSB36152) under the supervision of Dr. Kyle Pontius (license #PSY14186).

 

Background and Experience:  Over the past ten years, Dr. Fisher has participated in and led various types of men's groups.  He has provided training and seminars on neuroscience, addiction, active listening, conflict resolution, grief/loss, vocation, and relationships at universities, organizations, and church retreats.  He has demonstrated successful leadership in the insurance and computer hardware/software industries, and with several non-profit organizations.  He has held senior roles in sales, marketing, and consulting across the U.S.

 

Special Interests and Services:  Dr. Fisher's approach to psychotherapy can be described as intuitive, compassionate, authentic and practical.  His current work has been influenced by Dr. Daniel Amen's cutting edge contribution to clinical practice.  Through individual and group psychotherapy, Dr. Fisher enjoys assisting people in achieving their relational, financial, career and academic goals.  In his work, he integrates experiential psychotherapy, depth psychology, cognitive-behavioral therapy, spirituality, and life experience.  He also incorporates personality, vocation, and ADD assessments.  For organizations, he facilitates consulting, seminars, and workshops.

 

Kyle D. Pontius, Ph.D.

Treatment Issues:  Anxiety, Autism/Asperger's, Depression, Diagnostic Assessment, Families with Special Needs, Gestalt Therapy, Neuropsychology, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Personal Performance, Relationship Skills 

Education and Training:  Ph.D. in Psychology (1992) from United States International University, San Diego (now Alliant International University).  Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University, Fullerton, and a seminary degree from Talbot Theological Seminary, Biola University.  Dr. Pontius completed post-graduate training at the Gestalt Therapy Institute of Los Angeles and has trained in neuropsychological assessment with the Reitan Neuropsychological Laboratory and at United States International University. Additionally, he completed the basic and advanced certificates in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) from Florida Institute of Technology.  He has been licensed as a psychologist in California since 1995 (#PSY14186) and is listed as a health service provider by the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.

 

Background and Experience:  Dr. Pontius has been in practice in Orange County since 1987 and with Meier Clinics since 1998.  He currently serves as Clinic Director at the Laguna Hills clinic.  Dr. Pontius has been on the adjunct faculty of the Department of Graduate Psychology at Azusa Pacific University and in the Department of Psychology at Concordia University. Prior to beginning his education in psychology, Dr. Pontius served on the pastoral staff of three churches. 

Special Interests and Services:  Working with a variety of clientele, Dr. Pontius has a special interest in the diagnostic assessment and treatment of individuals and families affected by autistic spectrum disorders.  He offers individual, couple, and family psychotherapy; behavioral consultation to parents and schools; psychological, educational, and neuropsychological assessment of children and adults; and parenting education for families affected by special needs.

Additional Information:  As the parent of a young adult affected by autism, Dr. Pontius has an interest in working with others who experience the same and similar life challenges.
